Five Oceans of the World
What are the five oceans of the world?
They
are
1. The Indian Ocean,
2. The Pacific Ocean,
3. The Arctic Ocean ,
4. The Atlantic Ocean and
5. The southern ocean
Let’s see their locations on the world map
Pacific Ocean
It is the largest and deepest ocean in the world. It extends from the Arctic Ocean in the north to the southern ocean in the south and is bounded by Asia and Oceania in the west and the Americas in the east.
Atlantic Ocean
The Atlantic Ocean is the second-largest ocean in the world. It is known to separate “the old world” of Africa, Europe, and Asia from the new world of the Americas in the European perception of the world.
The Indian Ocean
The Indian Ocean is the third largest of the five oceans, bounded by Asia to the west, North Africa to the west, Australia to the east, and the Southern Ocean in the south.
Southern ocean
The Southern Ocean, also known as the Antarctic Ocean, comprises the southernmost waters of the world. It is smaller than other oceans but bigger than the Arctic Ocean.
The Arctic Ocean
The Arctic Ocean is one of the smallest and shallowest oceans in the world. Some oceanographers call it the Arctic Mediterranean Sea. It has also been described as an estuary of the Atlantic Ocean.
